Interesting sightings at Chinggis Khaan International Airport (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia)

This airport is perhaps one of the highest airport in the world. I can’t believe my eyes when the PTV shows >1000m elevation when the plane already touched down. Indeed, it’s high up in the arid mountains that is of Ulaanbaatar.

Here are some interesting sights I was able to capture:

Thermal Detector. Is this supposed to be manned? Or is only required during arrivals?

Delayed! This bunch of airlines were delayed for departure due to strong winds. And it’s a regular thing in this airport. Some airlines will provide hotel accomodations, most of them won’t. Technically they are not required to.

Aeroflot. Due to it’s proximity to Russia, Ulaanbaatar – Moscow route is conveniently served by this Russian flag carrier. Turkish Airlines has also started flights to Ulaanbaatar from Istanbul.

Needless to say, it’s FAs are the nicest looking FAs around. Or maybe they just look different to me.

Mongolians, I found out, are quite apathetic to some nationalities. Or just plain indifferent. I’m not sure if that’s one of the reasons why the poor Russian officer was left there standing for over 20 minutes amidst the windy and dusty apron.

Aeroflot (L) and Air China (far Right)

Flaps? Ok

A grounded Mongolian Airlines

Chinggis Khaan Airport aerial.
Look how small the airport runway appears from up here. The plane made a very steep ascent. The first 10 minutes of the flight was quite rough.

What does the future hold for me here?(A Mongolian passenger arriving at Incheon airport, Korea)
